Protein Control

One cannot emphasize enough the importance of eating smaller, healthier portions of food at mealtimes. It is a difficult proposition, given our “clean plate” mentality which makes us finish the very last morsel of food on our plate even when we are full. Before you start a meal, you should relax and appreciate what you are eating. Take smaller bites, and chew your mouthful well before you go for the next spoonful. Take in the visual, olfactory and tactile aspects of the food instead of just shoveling food into your mouth. Look at the food. Appreciate the effort went into cooking it. Smell it…feel the various textures and complex tastes of whatever it is that you are eating.Drink a glass of water at room temperature at least 15 minutes before you start your meal. This will suppress your appetite a little and make you less ravenous. Never, ever eat in a stressful environment, and please do not eat while watching television or while reading, as you will not pay attention to what your are eating and how much of it you are eating.
