Bronchitis is caused by bacterial or viral infection such as cold, or viral illness such as influenza. Chronic inflammation in the passage that carry air from the trachea in the lungs is the cause for Acute bronchitis. Bronchitis symptoms are fever, malaise, noisy or wheezy breathing, breathing short and cough. This illness is usually self limiting otherwise the healthy people. They need to take complete bed rest with fluid intake. On the advice of the Doctor, patients should take cough suppressant. It is further to be generally avoided taking cough syrups during day time. In chronic bronchitis the bronchial lining membranes and walls are suffered irreversible damage due to prolonged infection. Thus the bronchi become narrowed and damaged and breathing in and out is restricted, thus not enough oxygen is allowed to mix with blood. People with chronic bronchitis need antibiotic treatment. They should avoid dusty and smoky atmosphere. Breathing extra oxygen through a mask may help the patients with acute symptoms.
