Diabetes Drug from Tobacco Plants

Researchers from Europe had produced tobacco plants containing anti-inflammatory protein called nterleukin-10 (IL 10) that could help type 1 diabetes patients and other autoimmune diseases. The scientists from University of Verona have found a healthy use of tobacco plants after breeding genetically modified plants containing medicine that could help type 1 diabetic patients. This is an advancement in the molecular farming, which may offer millions of patients a cheaper drugs and medicines. According to the researchers who published his article in the BMC Biotechnology, believed that these plants could grow more efficiently in fields , since they are cost effective protein producers. Further, tobacco plants can be easily transformed genetically and a plant can be easily regenerated from a single cell, he said. The Researchers have planned to feed the plants to mice with autoimmune diseases to find out how they respond. Further, the researchers want to test whether small doses could help prevent diabetes with people when combined with another compound called glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD65), which is also made from tobacco plants. One has to wait till end of 2009 for the researchers to submit their drug for regulatory approval.

FAQ : anthrax

A bacterium Bacillus Anthracis causes highly infectious disease called Anthrax. This bacterium shed from sore on infected animals as spores. This can survive for decades on animal hair and in soil. This is also otherwise known as woolsorters’ disease and can be transmitted to humans by contact with infected beasts or their products. Quelling of birds recently in China is due to spreading of Anthrax virus. Humans when affected by Anthrax will a break in their skin or from eating contaminated meat, which is very rare. During the past, out break on human was traced to imported shaving brushes. Skin infection is usually on the hand or on arm with a red lump. When this is left unattended, over several days become blistered and then ulcerated and covered with a black scab. Humans will have a flu like fever, swollen tender glands in the armpits. The diagnosis is confirmed by finding anthrax bacteria in samples taken from the sores or sputum. By eliminating the infected beasts and quarantining the rest we can eliminate spreading of the disease. To protect people at high risk, now vaccines are available.

Breast Fed Milk

It has been commonly believed that formula fed babies are tending to store fat and have higher risk of childhood obesity. A new study claimed that breast milk has less protein. A study of 1000 babies has revealed that protein levels in formula should fall. The study that was carried out in many countries on babies born between 2000 and 2004 and parents were recruited to take part in the first few weeks of their babies’ live. To end, a third were given low protein content formula milk, a third with higher level of protein, while the rest was breast fed during their first year. The infants were followed up to the age of two with regular weight, height and body mass index measurements. At the age of two, there was no difference in height between them, but the high protein group children were the heaviest. The researchers thus suggested that lower protein intakes in infancy might protect against later obesity.

FAQ:Hepatitis

Hepatitis means inflammation of liver. There are two types commonly known as Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B. Each of the disease is caused by different virus. Hepatitis A is the milder of two. It is more infectious and thus more common between people. When the liver becomes inflamed, its cells cannot work properly to turn the food into chemicals. These chemicals help to get rid of urine. The inflamed tissue obstructs the flow of blood and bile through the liver. Hepatitis B virus is transmitted when body fluids from an infected person gets into another person’s body. It is found in blood, semen, saliva, urine, breast milk and sweat. It can also be transmitted through sexual contact, blood transfusion, sharing syringes and needles, contaminated instruments used during medical procedures. Hepatitis ranges from mild to very severe. Mild may not cause any noticeable symptoms. Severe Hepatitis causes a very serious disturbance of health and can occasionally be fatal also. Blood tests can give a clear picture of disturbed liver function and can identify the causative virus and the stage of infection.

FAQ : sunstroke

Sunstroke (heatstroke) results when the body becomes dangerously overheated – a condition that can be fatal if not treated properly. Overexposure to hot sun light can result in sunstroke. Two main things happen: excessive sweating causes the body to become dehydrated and he mechanisms with which the body regulates its temperature to break down. Victims are usually people who are not acclimatized to hot weather. Babies and old people at most at risk. Other factors that increase susceptibility includes overeating, drinking too much alcohol, over strenuous exercise and wearing clothing that is too warm for the weather conditions. The first sign of impending heatstroke is often those of heat exhaustion. The person turns pale, the skin is cold and clammy. Other symptoms include profuse sweating, weakness, exhaustion, dizziness, headache, rapid pulse and vomiting. When heatstroke develops, the sweating usually slows down, and may stop altogether. The skin will become hot, dry and flushed, the pulse rapid and weak. Other symptoms include headache, and weakness and nausea. When the temperature drops down to 38 Degree C, remove the wet sheets and replace with dry ones.

The power of Turmeric

Did you know that a lot of people from India, avoid much diseases and complications simply because they use turmeric in their cooking.Turmeric is considered auspicious in India and finds a place in their daily cooking in one form of other. It has the great healing properties. The recent finding being Curcumin, the major yellow constituent of turmeric powder is also used for reducing inflammation of the bowel. This recent discovery can prove that diet based treatments for those who suffer from Crohn’s disease. It is form of disease can be aggravated or relieved based on the intake of the sufferer. Abdominal Exercise

Looking around for a “looks to kill for” washboard abs or a “cool and rugged” six pack look, then your answer will be to start working around your waist. This is by focusing completely on your abdomen. There are various kinds of exercises for the upper abs and lower abs. Short and long haul crunches work the muscles around the stomach while twists and side steps aiding in fighting fat around the waist. Core abs exercises and workouts are the most strenuous of all the abs workouts because they target the middle part of the abdomen and help toning the stomach to get rid of the belly fat around it. Most of the gymnasiums have an abs lounge which is equipped with leg-raises, abs curlers, toners, sculptors and rollers which deliver a complete abdominal work out and reducing the stress and strain involved around the neck and back and exercise mats for floor exercises, sit-ups and squats which are little more demanding but highly effective. These help in strengthening and tightening the abdominal muscles and thus indirectly aid in weight loss as well though it may not be a hard core weight loss session. The internet has now become a great resource for hunting for great abdominal workout sessions and these generally are not very time consuming.

Acai Berries

The newest natural way of loosing weight which has be propagated and prophesied by Oprah Wifely on her show is the Acai Berry. The acai fever caught on in the U.S in the late 2007 – 2008. The acai berries are known for its high anti-oxidant content (even higher than that present in cranberry, cherries, grape and oranges) because of the high content of antihistamines present in these berries. The fruit is now more commercially grown and can be bought off the shelf in any pharmacy or grocery store which is available as smoothies, juice, pulp and tablets ( it is one of the most highly recommended dietary supplements). The acai berries claims to cure diabetes and insomnia, an excellent weight loss tool, cure skin problems to an extent, a great detoxifying agent for the body, good for the heart and its related disorders.

Water Balance in the body

Drinking plenty of water is always good or so my mother keeps telling me. A good 70% of the human body is comprised of water. It helps in proper digestion of foods and also helps in easy assimilation. The body needs at least three to six liters of water every day to keep it hydrated and doctors and nutritionists recommend people to eat foods laden with water which is major from leafy vegetables, cucumbers and fruits. This helps in flushing out most of the toxins from the body. And how this done?- toxins are thrown out of the body when we sweat and urinate. We generally rush to grab a bottle of water when we feel thirsty, but this is more of a sign that the body is already dehydrated. Water helps in diluting the glucose and salts in the body. Water is essential for maintaining the pH balance (that is the water –electrolyte balance) in the body. It also aids in burning fat in the tissues and acts an excellent coolant for the body thereby maintaining the heat generated. Water in its purest form is from rain and snow. But the more commonest forms of water that the common man consumes is from the rivers and springs which have good amount mineral content in them.

Counting Calories

We all know that food is the only and major source of fuel for the body and as we digest the food we take in energy is slowly released when this digested food is absorbed into the cells from the digestive tract. The body needs a good amount of calorific count to keep the human machine and its works in perfect condition. Today’s fad is to go pencil thin or bulky and muscular and so people tend to keep a watchful on the number of calories taken in and burnt for a day. A healthy calorie count recommended by dieticians to maintain is 2000kCal on an average. It is healthy and important to have a calorie count and also how effectively it is burnt. It is good to keep a calorie count but to not cut down and give your system a hard time. At the same time too many calorie intake can also be harmful because the body sees no reason to burn them when already sufficient energy has been released and these calories end getting stored as fat. There are ways and means to keep tabs on your calorie count. We could consult a nutritionist and get the most of the diet plan given to us. Also keep a good watch on our hunger pangs and signs so that we do not tend to over eat or under eat.

Diabetes – a slow killer

Diabetes Mellitus or more commonly called Diabetes is a condition (metabolic disease) wherein a person is characterized with high blood sugar levels. Medically it is a condition where the insulin level (a hormone produced by a group of special cells beta cells of the pancreas) in the blood is very low (that is the blood glucose level which is produced by glycogen hormone is very high, a condition called hyperglycemia) resulting in excessive muscle loss and release of glucose in the body. This is because the glucose that is broken down is not being assimilated and absorbed by the cells because of insufficient production of insulin. There are two types of diabetes seen – type 1 diabetes is where there is an absolute lack of insulin secretion whereas in type 2 diabetes we can see a steady decline and deterioration in the beta cells. It is a condition that cannot be eradicated but can be kept under a check. Diabetic patients healing process is very slow even if it is a small open cut wound. Diabetes under chronic conditions and over due coarse of time can lead to nervous breakdown, kidney failure and stroke because it causes hardening of the arteries and in the most severe cases can lead to death.

Tip #5: Shave Properly

Most people rush through shaving. But, if you shave your legs, arms, face, or any other part of your body improperly, it results in skin irritations. First, change the blades often. When they are dull, they can scrape your skin. Second, shave in the direction of the hair growth. If you shave against the growth, you can cause ingrown hairs and razor bumps. Lastly, use a high-quality shaving cream. Shaving creams are not just the same. Use shaving creams that moisturize and lubricate. You can gather these details if you, can have a look at the back of the cream. I hope you people can choose the right shaving cream the next time you buy it.

Kickboxing

Apart from walking, jogging, skipping and running, one other great cardiac-vascular routine is kickboxing. Kickboxing was practiced more as a form of martial art before it was developed as more of a combat sport (it is on similar lines with the more commonly known boxing) and then a part of a fitness plan. Kick boxing was initially part of the training sessions that boxer underwent to help improve their ability to withstand the impact of blows delivered by their opponents. In this sport when combatants duel one another they are only allowed to strike below the waist and use their hands cupped into a fist, feet and heels with the rules of the game avoiding elbow and the use of knees in the fight. The opponent jabs or thrusts his fist to counter a blow or use various kicks like a cross, crescent, side and back kicks. Kickboxing has various names around the world but it is more predominantly famous a form of martial art around South East Asia. Kickboxing incorporated into an exercise routine, helps to work on the body on the whole and it helps in maintaining the totality of a great workout session combined with cardiac respiratory fitness.

On the Elliptical

There are various ways where a work out session could be targeted on the body. This could be either the upper body which is concentrating more on the arms and chest or the abdominal region or the lower body ( legs). It is quite well known that the lower body and abdomen are the most difficult to tone because of the type of muscle that makes up the lower body and so more concentrated exercises are directed towards toning and shaping quads, hamstring and the abductors. Most people resort to treadmills and elliptical trainers ( machines) for this which includes steppers cross ramps etc. The impact on the joints and knees on an elliptical is much lesser than that on a treadmill and an added advantage with the elliptical are that they provide more of a complete body work out thanks to the dual action handle bars which exercise the forearms and chest and foot pedals which can be used in the forward or reverse modes. The treadmill focuses more on the lower body though both these sets of trainers are the most highly sought after in a gymnasium. But with both if we can change the incline resistance offered by the machine and with a little bit of motivation, burning calories can never get any better.
